About this listen

Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. Detective Sergeant DC Smith could listen to some music, make some of his own, and maybe even catch up on his reading; he is almost looking forward to it. And then there is a knock on the door. It's only his next-door neighbor, but it is the beginning of a sequence of events that will bring him face to face with some of the darkest episodes and the most dangerous people from his own past. This is Smith's fifth investigation, but this time it's personal.

This book was really good to listen to. I hope the next one is just as good

Fave so far in the series

when i started this series (An accidental death) i found the story very slow paced and not like the dead body filled , gory detective thriller series i was used to. i persevered mostly as i found the narrator’s voice very soothing and good to have on in the back ground. By the end of the second book i found myself listening more intently, not wanting to miss any of the witty dialogue or character development. Now i am completely hooked on the series and found myself laughing and even welling up with tears in this latest story, not something i often do. Look forward to the next one , what a great author matched with a perfect narrator.

Unexpectedly hooked…

I'm a few books into this series and this is by far my favourite. Tugging at my heart and thrilling my senses and bringing back sad memories of Belfast as it was. 5 stars is not enough!
Narration is perfection as always, thank you.

Brilliant

Brilliantly written, sensitive to both sides in the Troubles, good character development and poignant ending.

As usual I enjoyed the pedantic sense of humour of DC, but this time I found out a little more about the man and found out more on the personal costs of 'The Troubles' in Ireland.
Such a well researched book - most enjoyable, but hard hitting!

WHAT A GREAT BOOK!

All of my Irish ancestry was stirred. The things that run deep in the DNA. Family first, loyalty, trust, stubbornness and the protection of secrets at all costs.

An emotional read

I am surprised, however by the ongoing use of the outdated term “coloured “ ...not sure it adds and could easily be replaced.

Very much enjoyed this book. I’m hooked on this series.
