About this listen

This is DC Smith's third investigation with the Diver and Diver Associates agency. They have been asked by a member of Norfolk's aristocracy to look into the tragic death of her younger brother, Freddie, the late Lord Thorpe of the title. The inquest verdict was of misadventure, but it isn't long before Smith begins to suspect there has been a serious miscarriage of justice.

The Smith books are a bitter sweet pleasure. Always beautifully written and the most glorious of narrator’s voices.
As always the hours passed too quickly.

I really didn’t want to interrupt my reading of this book. It was absolutely riveting and the details of the investigation were superb.

Brilliant story with brilliant narration

Another book with engaging characters, plot and narration. Peter Grainger has the ability to make his stories feel unhurried but in no way tedious. I never want to skip ahead but enjoy every word. The only disappointing thing about them is getting to the end and having to wait for the next one.

Engaging in every way

The mystery was not wrapped up, and it seemed to finish abruptly with questions unanswered.

Well narrated.

Fabulous story with many twist and turns. The book was made all the more enjoyable by the wonderful melodic voice of the narrator.
