This short story is of Benjamin "Nails" Kwame, the hardest hitter ever to walk the streets of Harlem during the early 20th century. It is 1910, and the war between Casper Holstein and Madam "Queenie" St. Claire has kicked off. The control of the numbers racket has been a hard fought contest of wits. The Baron and Baroness of the street want sole ownership of their respective neighborhoods. The bodies have piled up on both sides.

Queen has had enough and calls upon the quiet guy who sips his whiskey in silence and plots how to make more money. He is chosen as a hitter for the obvious reason....he blends in with everyone. He made his choice for his daughter, Jasmine, and his wife, Tina....but he really never had a choice in life.

You're either YOLO or you're getting swallowed up in the streets. This is an added story which will come out in several parts. Nails makes his first appearance as a side character in Blood and Whiskey. He eventually morphs into a major player. He is featured heavily in book two of Blood and Whiskey, In for a Penny...In for a Pound. You don't need to enjoy the others first. In fact, you should enjoy this first so it makes more sense when you start the Blood and Whiskey series.
