Publisher's Summary
When Theseus comes away from the Labyrinth with the prize and his beloved, the Mistress of the Labyrinth, his future seems assured. But she bears him only a daughter and when he casts her aside for this, the world changes. From that day forward, the Labyrinths decay, and power fades from the city-states.
A hundred years pass, Troy falls, the Trojans scatter. Brutus, the warrior-king of Troy, receives a vision of distant shores where he can rebuild the ancient kingdom. He will move heaven and earth to reach his destiny, but in the mists is a woman of power who has her own reasons for luring Brutus to these green shores.
If Brutus makes this journey successfully, it will be the next step in the Game of the Labyrinth, and the start of a complicated contest of wills to span the centuries.
Critic Reviews
"In this dazzling start to a new trilogy, Australian author Douglass once again combines mythology, fantasy, magic and romance to produce a consistent, well-rounded story full of seriously flawed characters both abhorrently evil and enthrallingly empathetic....Douglass continually surprises, and readers will eagerly await the next two books." (Publishers Weekly)
"Sheryl Bernstein brings fortitude to this saga." (AudioFile)

Great book!
All her books are fanatics and this one isn’t any different. I think it’s a bit mean they only have the first in the series as an audio book...
the reader was pretty terrible with men’s voices

I’ve read the book and great story over the Trilogy
But I really had difficulty listening to the narrator. I found her attempts at character voices distracting, and everyone ended up sounding like an old witch crone voice…. Wish it was narrated by a male, they are easier to listen too.

Need more from this author and Storm Constantine
Excellent writer to be honest I would get all her Books if available as I would if Storm Constantine books were available both queens in this genre.

Epic fantasy mixed with pseudo-history
Sara Douglass writes very good fantasy that blends old myths and religions as truth into an alternate "real world". If you like that concept then I recommend this series. (Her other series 'The Crucible' is even better and one of my favorite fantasy series.) The first half of this first book might be a bit slow, but it is developing an epic story with consequences spanning thousands of years.
Unlike some, I don't have a problem with the narrator. I have listened to 100's of audio books, so I accept that a narrator with a soft feminine voice may struggle to emulate deep masculine voices. And vice versa.
Audible, please complete this series and then 'The Crucible'.
