Werner Herzog's new film is Rescue Dawn, based on his 1997 documentary Little Dieter Needs to Fly. It's the true story of Dieter Dengler, the only US pilot to have successfully escaped from a North Vietnamese-controlled prison. Dieter is played by Christian Bale in the new film. Herzog's most recent film is the documentary Grizzly Man. Herzog is associated with the German New Wave film movement. He's produced, written, and directed more than 40 films, including Wings of Hope, Aguirre, Wrath of God, and Fitzcarraldo.
