Publisher's Summary

A killer behind bars is still killing....

Dead bodies are piling up for Detective Sergeant Jessica Daniel. Usually when a serial killer is on the loose, the pressure would be building to find the perpetrator, but the victims are all hardened criminals themselves. The national media can't believe their luck with an apparent vigilante on the streets while Jessica's new boss seems grateful someone else is doing their job for them.

But things aren't so straightforward when forensics matches blood from the apparent killer to a man already behind bars.

Easy listening who dunnit

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's an easy going who dunnit - good old fashioned police work without any gore or violence. The narrator is great and keeps the story line moving along nicely. There isn't a big twist and you won't be shocked - it's just a nice book to listen too.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jessica the lead character is well drawn - flaws an all she's very believable.

Good!

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was a good, satisfying ending.

Any additional comments?

This was a good tale. It nipped along at a fast pace and kept me involved. It loses a star because the writing was sloppy at times. On a few occasions, I found myself thinking of how the sentences could have been constructed better.

suspense with a dash of humour

This is a good detective book. what i really like is that the characters feel very real and you care about them. There is suspense, but it's not gritty- instead, there is some light humour thrown in. This is book 2 in a series and it gives quite a bit away about what happened in the first one, so I recommend that you start with book 1!!
regarding the performance, I found that the person reading it didn't do different voices that well, so it wasn't always clear which character was speaking, but that's just a minor quibble.

Hotting Up

What made the experience of listening to Vigilante the most enjoyable?

This is the second book that I have read in the series and the characters really do seem to be coming alive this time.

What other book might you compare Vigilante to, and why?

I have recently 'read' books by Rachel Abbott and Elizabeth Corley and these are definitely of a similar genre and pace. I was fortunate enough to have to drive for around three hours and the journey just flew by.

What about Becky Hindley’s performance did you like?

I must admit that Becky Hindley's accents are slightly annoying, but then the author clearly describes characters from all around the country and to that extent she makes a valiant effort.

Very good

I have really enjoyed this series. The characters are well written and the plots are engaging. I started this series about two months ago and since then I have been hooked. Jessica's character is likeable and easy to relate to. I now eagerly await the new book in the series coming in 2016. would definitely recommend to a friend. voice over also pleasant.

Good Story

As usual a good story. Gets a bit silly at times and far fetched, but none the less a good and enjoyable listen.

Another good yarn

Enjoyed, but read it far too quickly! I like the reader. Another reviewer said that they recognised the story, but I didn't and, as Audible could testify, I've read hundreds! Will now move onto book 3.

Manchester sure sounds violent!!!!

If I didn't live and work there is be scared of the place ;)
I also work in Central Park opposite the HQ of GMP , I'm guessing that's where Adam works?
I'm not saying Moston is a safe and wonderful place, but there's not been a serial killer since the seventies, I think. Mind you there's some dodgy looking geezers in MAN33 I'd be wary of!

Anyway, the story, as one would expect from Kerry, is top notch. It's my second Audible recording, though I've read a few others in the series, I decided to listen to the Audible books in series order. One character I did find hard to believe was the Yorkshire DCI. Apart from sports, there's no war of the roses anymore. Even folk in their forties, like myself, would have to be hard-core history nerds to give a toss about that.

One thing I do like about this series is Becky Hindley is narrating all eleven I've got so far, there's also at least one short and number twelve I'm missing, I'm guessing Becky narrates those too. She's a perfect choice. I have returned books due too bad narration, in the past. This would never happen is Becky was narrator :)
