Slow, deliberate accumulation of details along the “axis of the sex-scandal plot”

Some readers may find the tone, pace, and mood, as well as the narrator, a little annoying, and at times too slow and introspective. But the big picture of an England, London in particular, about to burst into the tawdry bloom of “swinging” sex-crazed Britain and the Beatles, is one of the best recreations of culture, time, and place, I’ve read. Not for seekers of Bond-like action.

Good but a bit random

Story is too long. The beginning is just a long ramble at the start before it gets meaty and after the main mystery is solved the book could end but drags on unnecessarily for at least another hour. The voice is a bit disconcerting having the male lead narrated by a woman does not work and after listening to earlier books is very hard to get used to.
