There’s no better way to celebrate Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, his classic contribution to the American literary canon, than to take in the great American novel through prolific actor Elijah Wood’s narration. Wood tackles the unique language and dialect that is a paramount feature of the novel with great energy and enthusiasm. The intricate syntax and word play begs to be read aloud, and Wood is exceptionally at ease with the material. Listening to his rendition of Huck Finn, you feel like you’re on the raft with Huck and Jim, heading down the Mississippi river and anxiously anticipating the many wily individuals they were to encounter on their journey.
A companion piece to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn picks up right where Twain’s previous novel left off. On the banks of the Mississippi river in a small town in Missouri, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn have just intercepted a small treasure from a gang of robbers. While Tom is a middle class country bumpkin, Huck grew up in poverty with a drunken, abusive father. In the throes of a nasty custody battle, Huck runs away with a neighbor’s slave, Jim. They flee down the Mississippi river in a raft, both with freedom on their minds.

Rolling down the river
A story for all ages following the adventures of Huck and Jim. I don't know if I ever read this as a child but as an adult it was a fabulous read. Jim and Huck are so loyal to each other and amid all that society imposes on how they should be and what they should do, they listen to their hearts and follow the path (or in this case the mighty Mississippi) doing what is right and what is human. A mad cap time towards the end that beggars belief but what is an adventure without making it the craziest one imaginable. This adventure has survived 140 years and I hope it survives that and more, capturing a time with all its injustices and reminding us all that this journey out of slavery to freedom and to equality is not finished yet but we all can be a Huck Finn and come back to doing what the heart knows is right.

Helpful guide. Brilliant voice
This is a set text for my English exam. Tried and failed to read it as language was hard to understand . Loved the audio book though, easy to comprehend and follow. What an awesome narrator. Thanks Frodo!

Excellent narration but story too contrived
Parts were great and it had a nice ending, but parts were just too contrived. The racism was confronting and sad – reflecting the evolutionary view that some humans were less developed than others.
Elijah Wood’s narration was masterful – amazing variation and accents.

A classic brought vividly to life.
A confronting story that has stood the test of time. It’s a rollicking boys own adventure story with fascinating insights into the life and politics of the time in America’s Deep South. It has unflinching insights into slavery and racism but with the light touch of a master storyteller. Really well narrated and a good way to rediscover a literary classic.

surprisingly entertaining
there's a particular word used here beginning with N, filled with discrimination, hearing my favourite Hobbit read it so much made me feel a bit off, being an old story I understand it, and the story doesn't take any deep dark racist turns.
if you want a story that's honest and filled with heart this is it.

Woods' performance is fantastic.
This is a delightful story, full of fun and adventure. While it can get tricky at times to ignore the racism that was prevalent in that time period, the characters of Tom and Jim are so darn charming that it softens the blow.
I found reading the physical book to be a chore, as so much is written in Tom or Jim's voice that I found myself needing to read aloud to fully understand what was being said.
Woods absolutely blew the performances out of the water and allowed me to simply immerse myself in rafting down the River.
Absolutely fantastic.
