Story
Have you ever bunged it on? Behaved like a drongo? Added mayo to a story? Lost your Reg Grundies? Join bestselling storyteller William McInnes as he offers his own take on our colourful and colloquial way with words. From the simpler times of childhood to today's testing (and unprecedented!) times, or when we're wasting time, enjoying sporting times or hitting the big time, Australians have a turn of phrase for every situation. Our love of plain speaking communicates the essence of the thing to our mates, to those in the know - and to those who should know better.

Story
It's the holiday where shopping centres become a sea of dazed shoppers bearing checklists as long as your arm, lunch is a never-ending buffet of prawns and ham and your electricity bill is doubly struck by having to run the fan all day and keep those decorative lights blinking through the night. William McInnes, best-selling author of Fatherhood, Worse Things Happen at Sea and A Man's Got to Have a Hobby, tackles the silly season in a way only he can - telling stories brimming with good humour and nostalgia, to remind us what Christmas is all about: family.

Story
William McInnes, one of Australia's best known storytellers and actors, has turned to a subject that is close to his heart. Fatherhood is about family, about memories of his father and the memories he's creating as a dad himself, with his own son and daughter. Warm, witty and nostalgic, these tales are just like a friendly chat over the back fence or the banter of a backyard BBQ.

Publisher's Summary
Written and read by best-selling Australian author and much-loved actor William McInnes, this is a story about our love affair with holidays.
It's about going away and staying at home. It's about the relaxing times you had as a kid, escapes you have with your children and the stories you hear from your friends.
It can be about a romantic sunset, the spare seat at breakfast being taken by an attractive stranger, a miraculous airline upgrade - or missing bags, unfortunate rashes and wrong turns that lead to places you definitely did not intend to go.
But most of all it's about being in your backyard in an aboveground pool, floating in circles, staring at the clouds as you go round and round and knowing as you float that life is sweet because you're on holidays.

A wonderful trip
I love the no b.s. style that William McInnes gives us in this audio book.
The reader is taken on a journey which for the most part is humorous, sometimes hilarious, but which also by way of contrast includes the addition of serious but gentle comments.
I thoroughly recommend this work.

Great book - kept laughing to myself the whole time. I grew up in Brisbane about the same time so I could relate to all of it.

Good on Ya Reddy.
As someone who grew up in Redcliffe in the 60s and 70s I knew all these places, attitudes and ways of life, I knew these people or people like them, I too loved the Dolphins; hope they kick ass in the NRL next year. Such a nostalgic and funny read: Hornibrook Highway, Scotts Point, Humpybong Primary, Redcliffe's status a sort of a holiday destination and did I mention the Dolphins.
William McInnes books feature funny episodes and quirky people, but they are always warm-hearted and fond treatments.

An Aussie Literary Delight
A wonderful recollection of life memories. I was amazed at Will’s recollection and the detail within it.
So many funny stories with a tint of nostalgia for us 50 something listeners.
A journey into a mix of humour, heartfelt feelings of family tradition and some touching moments that have shaped Wills’ being.
Thanks for sharing mate, a great listen!
Mick

Bring back childhood memories
A rollicking story telling about holidays in general but if you come from Queensland Australia there are sections that really bought back wonderful memories.
William is an acute observer of human behaviour and can really manage to see the humour in things.
