Publisher's Summary
For families of addicts, feelings of fear, shame, and confusion over a loved one's addiction can cause deep anxiety, sleepless nights, and even physical illness. And the emotional distress family members suffer is often compounded by the belief that they somehow cause or contributed to their loved one's addiction - or that they could have done something to prevent it.
As the heart-wrenching personal stories in this book reveal, family members do not cause their loved one's addiction. Nor can they control or cure addiction. What family members can do is find support, set boundaries, detach with love, and eventually discover how to enjoy life whether their loved one finds recovery or not. Addict in the Family is a book about sorrow, deception, and pain. More importantly, it is a book of comfort, hope, and understanding for anyone struggling with a loved one's addiction.

Just not what I was looking for...
The book spends a lot of time on parents with addicted children and this is not what I need.

Addict in the Family
I never thought we would have an addict in the family - let alone which member of the family it would be! I was stunned when I learned, as well as how it had been hidden for so long.
No family is immune to this dreaded illness, but in time and working on communication, that person can once again be an active and loved family member. Forgiveness and living in the present instead of the past are key elements.
I found this book to be a helpful reminder of just how far we have come, although it is always a work in progress. One must look deep inside oneself, not focusing on the addict, to come out of the past with a positive look on the future.

Horrible performance
The performance sounds as if it is poorly automatically/computer generated. There is continuous inconsistent variability of stress and intonation word to word within sentences that results in bizarre prosody that virtually destroys the quality of the story and the ability to endure the painful performance. I'm going to resort to using Alexa to narrate in a flat monotone in order to escape this torturous experience.

Worth The Listen
This book was worth the listen but unfortunately most of the time Randye Kaye’s voice and reading style is quite robotic-sounding.
