Ten years have passed since the apparent end of the Miss Marple murders, when Agatha Christie’s friends’ maid, shares concerns for her cousin’s safety at a remote mental institution.

Agatha agrees to help, and takes along her other old friend, Mary Westmacott, to visit the Gateshead Institute.

At the asylum, disturbing questions pervade: Are one of the patients having an improper relationship with married wealthy proprietor, Doctor Archibald?
