The Best Cozy Mystery I Have Read to Date

I have found an absolute love affair with cozy mysteries. I think A Crafty Crime might be a new favourite though. First of all, I love the character relationships. The first one being the relationship between Hadley and her twin brother Paul. They just have that special twin bond, and Paul is the cop in town, adding to the adventure. Secondly, I am curious to see where the relationship will go between Hadley and Luke. A possible love interest? I love the quaintness of Stoneybrook and the cast of characters that live in the town. Not to mention all the knitting and cat love in this book. The last line of the book is perfection. I thought I had the killer pinned down, but Scott does a great job of making the reader/listener question if they have it right, until the very end. The recipes at the end of the book sound amazing and I hope to try both of them. I have already started the second book in the series and hope to continue on with it. This is the second book I have listened to by Jennifer Jill Araya. I love her narrations, her voices are clear, and really bring the characters to life. I was actually interested in this book initially because she did the narration. That is how much I enjoy her work. I received this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this honest review.

A fun, cozy story...

This is a really cute, fun, cozy story... the first in what I hope turns into a series! I absolutely loved it's sense of place... (Now that I'm thinking about the last couple of cozy mysteries that I've read, I realize that in each of them the protagonists are all pretty firmly grounded, maybe that's a rule for one of these stories...) but, I mention the place in this book because like Hadley, I've grown up in the Pacific Northwest. Also in the summer time, I've been known to haunt our own farmers markets, and the Cascades aren't that far away, so this story felt a little bit like home... And boy oh boy, does Hadley and her twin brother (the local cop) have their work cut out for them when a woman is found murdered! There's plenty of murder suspects, because it seems the victim had seemingly gone out of her way to harass everyone in town. Jennifer Jill Araya does a great job narrating this tale... and if your crafty you may feel the urge to knit, or make jam while you're listening to this one! Considering the genre, I'm giving this one... 5 Cozy ☆'s ☺

So Jam Good!

This was an amazing cozy mystery! I love it when the protagonist has a sibling or friend that plays a key role in the book along with her so all of the sleuthing doesn’t fall on herself. A Crafty Crime was full of secrets, lies, suspense, knitting, and jam! The plot and all of the characters are believable, especially for being set in a small town. I enjoyed the recipes from Marissa McClellan and am tempted to try to make them since they sound so good! Jennifer did a great job narrating! She did slight voice variations for each character so it was easy enough to know which character was talking. I love that she put passion and emotion into her performance to bring Hadley and the story to life. *I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A great listen

5 Star review A Crafty Crime (Stoneybrook Mystery #1) by Eryn Scott Audio Review: Both the author Eryn Scott and narrator Jennifer Jill Araya were new to me and I have no idea why that is. I loved this book from start to finish. It is a cosy mystery and one that I found thoroughly entertaining. The narrator did a fabulous job and certainly kept me entertained. This was a a book filled with secrets and lies. The intrigue and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat as I listened to this story. There are many twists, turns and surprises in A Crafty Crime as Hadley and her band of friends follow the clues and I have to say that I was taken by surprise on a couple of occasions.

Crime and cuteness, what could be better?

I wasn't sure what to expect from the first book of this series, as I fell in love with Eryn's writing four years ago in Settling Up. This book didn't let me down. Keeping up with the story I cuoldn't figure out who the murderer was, which is always good! Ususally with cozy mysteries, I can figure out the murder long before the end of the book. Added bonus, Hadley the main character has a jam business! I LOVE MAKING JAM! and she knits! I prefer crochet, but I won't hold that against her ;) definitely worth a listen. Jennifer, the narrator, is phenominal. Not that it means much to you, but I am a very picky listener. Her voice is on point and character fluctuations are on point!

A Solid Start to New Series

I found this story a great start for the new series. This is my first title by Eryn Scott. We get introduced to the main characters, Deputy Sheriff Paul James and his twin sister Hadley. There are a few more characters that will become part of the normal crew, but I don't want to spoil any of the mystery by naming them. The whodunit starts off pretty quickly, but I honestly found the fact that Hadley doing most of the investigative work (rather than her brother) a little off-putting. I know the synopsis says it's easier for her, but Hadley runs hot and cold with her jumping to conclusions that I found the story a little more on the silly side (think I Love Lucy) than Cozy Mystery. That said, once I accepted this story to be more chuckle than sensible story, I enjoyed the lightness and the quirky characters. Narrator Jennifer Jill Araya continues to deliver a light and innocent tone that works nicely with this genre. She kept the story moving and made the listening enjoyable. I received a free copy of this audiobook via freeaudiobookcodes. My review is honest and not required. Mature Content: none (no sex, violence or language)

Soooo good!

I loved this story and the narrator! The writing was so good! One of my favorite things is that the main character didn’t go all lone wolf like a lot of heroines in mystery’s, she actually worked with people! And I like that she wasn’t working against the police. Her relationship with her BFF and brother was awesome! And loved Ansil 💗

Perfect Solid Cozy Mystery

A fun easy cozy small town mystery. The characters are little bit predictable but it was super cute. Has all the elements of a solid cozy mystery and I enjoyed the author's style. Does keep you somewhat uncertain of the murder's identity until the end and good twist to have Harley's brother as a police officer. Also, that Harley was a jam seller was an interesting characteristic. The narration is perfect and fits the characters and small town vibe well. The narrator does an excellent job and made this a quick afternoon listen. I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

A Great Cozy Mystery!!!

This cozy mystery is such a joy to listen to. Eryn Scott writes a smart, suspenseful and funny mystery which has an ending you will not see coming! I loved following the main characters as they figured out clues to catch the murderer. The story was well written and the characters believable. I can't wait to listen to the next book! The narration was awesome. Jennifer Jill Araya gave each character their own voice and emotions. She really helped the story come alive and pull the listener in until the end. I will be looking for her as a narrator in future books. Loved the combination and will be recommending this book to my cozy mystery friends. loved it

I must say I enjoyed this way more than i thought i will, but then again cat's sold it for me...and sweats <3 The characters are very likable, and the story is interesting, you never know who done it until the very end, and it definitely wasn't who i thought it would be, at least in the 1st book. I am on 5th now, and maybe in 2 i managed to GUESS [still wasn't sure], so just that is a massive plus for me, that it wasn't very predictable. I also got to like the narrator very much, and i am not a massive fan of female narrators, or maybe I just had a bad luck finding ones i like, UNTIL NOW :) Her effort on male voices for me is brilliant, I am definitely going to finish the series and hope the last one comes out quickly.

A crafty plot

This is the first book by this author that I have read or listened to but it won't be the last and in fact I have already downloaded book two. I really enjoyed this cozy mystery. I liked the characters and the fact the main characters all thought they were right about who the killer was and set about to prove they were right, this led to lots of suspects, guessing and a number of twists. Hadley is very human and is trying to get over a divorce, which is made harder when all the shops in the village is run by ex family members, which gives the story a very interesting touch and a look into village life. Hadley's cat sitting job it brought to a sudden holt when she stumbles over the dead body of the cats owner. She wasn't the nicest woman in the village and her only friends seem to be the ladies in her knitting group. But even there it turns out she had enemies. Hadley, her best friend and her twin brother set about trying to get to the bottom of the murder in the town that they all love. Will it help that they know everyone in the small town? With lies and history involved the trio must work together to unpick all the tangled knots. I liked the narrator and thought she did a good job bringing the characters and village to life.

Brilliant start to the series!

A fast paced mystery with charming characters. I loved how likeable the characters were and how they were represented as a close knit little group. I felt like part of the gang as it was easy to feel their emotional connections to each other. I also loved the fact that there was a cute little cat in the story too. I'm really looking forward to reading book two and so on and to see how the romantic sub plot develops through the series. The story was very easy to listen to as the narrator did a great job. I voluntarily reviewed an advance audio review copy.
