About this listen

Meet DI Hilary Greene, a policewoman fighting to save her career. Not only has she lost her husband, but his actions have put her under investigation for corruption.

Then a bashed and broken body is found floating in the Oxford Canal. It looks like the victim fell off a boat, but Hillary is not so sure. Her investigation exposes a dark background to the death. Can Hillary clear her name and get to the bottom of a fiendish conspiracy on the water?

I felt really irritated by the narrator- I slowed the speed down but it was hard to differentiate between the characters

Story was spoilt by the narrator

The narrator spoiled this for me. Speaking too fast at times (which had the effect of flattening the story) and mispronouncing words. The storyline was over-complicated simply because the author tried to weave several different threads together which didn't work.

A complicated storyline

This is a book I will have to read myself. I kept trying to work out why I wasn’t enjoying it and I came to the conclusion that it really sounded like it was being read rather than performed and it irritated me so much I couldn’t finish. It sounded like a series of statements.

Unable to finish

Narration was good which made for an ordinary listen. I had thought several times to archive it but plodded into the finish.

Narration was awful! Good voice but jumped scene without any pause so confusing to keep track. I switched between audible and kindle to keep track as a result!

Good story

Shallow character development, cringe use of idiom, light plot. Failed to hold my attention although played it through to the end.

You unconvincing characters

We started listening to this on a long road trip but it was so tedious it almost put us to sleep. Only worth listening to if you have insomnia.

boring, too much description,

Fast paced, down to earth, many faceted, English police detective, surprisingly engaging and excellent to listen to!
