The Last Phoenix

I'm Veronica Neill, world class thief and the last phoenix in existence. After taking a job for a vampire in Miami, I find myself embroiled in a war that not only spans this world, but all the other realms as well, even those I never knew existed. With the help of my witchy best friend and a sexy grim reaper agent, we can survive anything...right?

As a phoenix, I’m used to burning hot and rising from the ashes. That’s why I chose to make my living as a world-class thief. Some say it’s dangerous. I call it fun. Or it is until someone beats me to my latest mark, stealing the prize and killing a fae duke in the process. To add insult to injury, I get blamed for the gruesome murder. With my freedom on the line, I’ve got three options. One, confess my failure and spend a few centuries as the caged pet of my sadistic, bloodsucking client. Nope. Two, take the blame and let the hotter-than-hell grim reaper take me to jail.

Good news? I’m no longer a thief. Bad news? I’m no longer a thief. Some may consider that only good news, since I'll no longer run the risk of getting my ass thrown in a grim reaper prison for the rest of my extremely long life. Except I happen to enjoy the thrill of the hunt that comes with relieving goods from my unsuspecting targets. But things never stay boring for long. When I find a necromancer’s undead creation stumbling across a Miami beach - a highly illegal practice these days, I’d like to add - I get pulled into an investigation by the Death Enforcement Agency. 

I’m in hell, but some witch I know calls it Arizona. At least Tucson’s an excellent place to hide from the hefty bounty on my head, now that the entire supernatural community knows I’m the last phoenix. Catching me comes with a set-for-life kind of price tag. I don’t blame the bounty hunters; business is business, after all. But I’m beyond pissed at the maniacal mage who outed me and caused this whole mess. The necromancers are trying something new, and if they get their hands on my resurrection ability, both worlds will be facing a madman’s terrifying reign.

 Following a maniacal fae mage through a portal to who-the-hell-knows-where may not have been the smartest idea. I’m a go-with-the-flow kind of gal, so I make the most of it. Until that werewolf bite on my leg has other ideas. When I finally wake from my fever dreams, I find out I’m not in Miami anymore. In fact, I’m not in the human world at all. 

Focusing on getting the kingdom back to normal after Galina’s false and terrible rule has turned out to be a monumental task. Especially because I can’t stop the nagging feeling in the back of my mind that I need to get back to Miami. Back to Thane. Find your mate, Pavel said, but I’m running out of time.

The phoenix realm is doing fine without me, and Miami’s home again for the time being. Kit and Angela are planning a wedding, and Thane and I are happy. Using the stone should have been the end of all the bad news.

He can run, but he can’t hide. Not from the war I’m bringing. Remember when I said friendly and fae don’t usually go together? Yeah, I shouldn’t have forgotten that little fact.
