Summary

Game warden Mike Bowditch works in the stunning and tranquil woods of Maine, where he encounters all kinds of threats and crimes.

Game warden Mike Bowditch dedicates himself to cracking down on poachers, defending animal rights activists, finding missing people, battling the drug epidemic, and bringing killers to justice. It’s all part of a day’s work in the majestic forests of Maine. Natural predators aren’t the only ones he needs to look out for in the wild. Bowditch also navigates the simmering tensions between the locals and the rich summer residents. This action-packed series is filled with sudden twists, hidden secrets, unexpected dangers, and the sparks of its hero’s tentative romance with a marine biologist.

Henry Leyva’s narration brings a more contemplative hero to listeners, with the woods of Maine as his backdrop. Levya has a gift for portraying genuine people - some creepy, some likable - but all very real. His characterizations and accents of Maine tourists and denizens are spot-on. “Henry Leyva has nailed the Maine accent,” says one listener with a self-described ear for "the way they talk“.

A native of Maine, author Paul Doiron won the Barry Award and the Strand Critics Award for Best First Novel for The Poacher’s Son, his debut Mike Bowditch mystery. He attended Yale University, where he graduated with a degree in English, and holds an MFA in creative writing from Emerson College. Along with his love for literature, he is a Registered Maine Guide specializing in fly fishing and lives on a trout stream in coastal Maine.
