Publisher's Summary

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, Mike Bowditch has left the Maine Warden Service and is working as a fishing guide in the North Woods. But when his mentor, Sgt. Kathy Frost, is forced to kill a troubled war veteran in an apparent case of "suicide by cop", he begins having second thoughts about his decision. Now Kathy finds herself the target of a government inquiry and outrage from the dead soldier’s platoon-mates. Soon she finds herself in the sights of a sniper, as well. When the sergeant is shot outside her farmhouse, Mike joins the hunt to find the mysterious man responsible. To do so, the ex-warden must plunge into his friend’s secret past - even as a beautiful woman from Mike’s own past returns, throwing into jeopardy his tentative romance with wildlife biologist Stacey Stevens. As Kathy Frost lies on the brink of death and a dangerous shooter stalks the blueberry barrens of central Maine, Bowditch is forced to confront the choices he has made and determine, once and for all, the kind of man he truly is.

Another, edge of the seat book by Doiron.

Eerie and suspenseful thriller of cat and mice. Always thrilling sharp turnarounds in who the suspects are or is.
I truly love this series, but unfortunately audible play a game called "NOT AVAILABLE IN YOUR REGION" so unfortunately I will not be able to continue following the series of Bowditch. As the next two editions are not available in the Australian audible library . No The Precipice, or Widowmaker. Big anticlimactic moment. Very disenchanted by who made that call.
Seriously, don't let that deter you from downloading the previous editions by Paul Doiron.

Misinformed about wild turkeys

Author has serious knowledge gap around wild turkeys that taint this book as being non-credible...especially for something supposedly rooted in game wardens. A cheap mystery with some disturbingly graphic sexual content

wonderful book by a favorite author

Doiron's books started great and they keep getting better. Our hero, Mike Bowditch, is at a low point in his life. When a devoted mentor is shot, Mike adds some of his injured friend's burdens to his ongoing efforts to care for an absent friend's family. On this course, clues about the shooter start showing up.
I love how the exigencies of solving a crime are interwoven with Mike's day-to-day efforts to both be a good man and become a better man.
I love spending time with this hero and with the friends he gathers around him. I love seeing Maine natural beauty and gentle friendliness through the lenses of Mike and the author.
I highly recommend all the Mike Bowditch stories.

Engaging! Excited all the way to the end!

The narrator is amazing at breathing life and vivid character pictures to mind when reading Paul's descriptions. He is perfect for Paul's work! This book is another engaging installment of this amazing set of characters! I completely expect to see them somewhere each time I go to Maine! Can't wait to hear what happens next!

Excellent Book - solid series

This is the best book yet in the series. You expected an author to get better over time, but it isn't always the case. Doiron does get better both in writing and story-telling. I am very glad I started the series and enjoyed every book. Mr. Levya needs some work on his Maine accent, but so does everyone not poor in Maine.

Poor

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I cannot imagine why this has been so highly rated. The story is leaden, characters dull and narration lacking in any variety or consistency. Compared to some stories and narration it is sorely lacking.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Yes, I could play it at twice the speed so it lasted half as long.
