When her parents were murdered 11 years ago, leaving her physically scarred during the event, dragon shifter Astri never learned the identity of their killer. That is, until he appears to her in a nightmare. The powerful Duke Jorgen not only rules the city of Rivenna where she lives, he is also responsible for her parents’ death and for the disability she’s had to bear most of her life. When Astri wins the final contest for becoming the duke’s assistant, things take a turn for the worse. She realizes that she might have made a dreadful, life-altering mistake. Visitors from Samara join the duke inside the castle, and suddenly, tragedy strikes. A young girl is found stabbed to death in Astir's old chamber, when only late the night before, Astri herself had slept in that very bed. Could it be possible the killer murdered the wrong shifter?

Astri has decided to leave Rivenna along with Jorgen in order to track down a human druid in the Asian World. The druid breeds real dragons; the only creatures left in the entire world. He's in possession of dragon venom - a magical healing liquid that can reverse any spell and heal any creature, including Jetli. Astri knows that this is her only chance to save her beloved Pixie and get Jorgen's dragon back. The journey alone is extremely dangerous, and on top that, Astri's heat season is quickly approaching.

Astri and her close friends are forced to hide in the city. They're waiting for an opportunity to strike back at the dark mage who took over Rivenna by force - the same mage who's been hunting her since she was 11 years old. When they leave the old mill to free her dear friend Emilia, people begin to spread terrible rumors. Apparently, Ruscal's planning to publicly execute his own brother. It's a race against time and Astri knows that she can't let Jorgen die. Will Astri save Jorgen and her beloved City of Rivenna or will Ruscal triumph once again?
