About this listen

As a child, Asha's mother told her ancient, forbidden stories to drive away her nightmares - and the telling of them killed her. And when Asha repeated those stories, they summoned an ancient dragon which almost destroyed her city and left Asha horribly scarred.

Ever since, she has protected her city and people (and tried to make amends) by dragon slaying. And now she may have a way to both atone for the deaths she caused and to escape an arranged marriage: her father will free her in exchange for the head of Kovu, the ancient dragon.

And the only obstacle in her path is a defiant slave boy....

Critic Reviews

"Hugely enjoyable entertainment. Kristen Ciccarelli is most definitely an author to watch." (Edward Coz, author of The Relic Guild)
"An accomplished fantasy novel, of the kind I think of as 'royal palace shenanigans', raised above the commonplace by one marvellous central premise - the idea that dragons are the custodians of the old tale." (Joanne Harris)
"The most simple thing I can say is this is the best book I have ever read and Kirsten Ciccarelli is now my favourite author." (Tomi Adeyemi, author of Children of Blood and Bone)
"A grand endeavour where prejudice and abuse are faced with passion and loyalty, creating a tale where you care about the characters and the world they live in." (Terror Tree)

And it’s a fantastic series! I want more! Very well interwoven and all characters have their place and tell the overall story yet you get to know each character individually as if each of them are the main - well written. And although each book has different narrators, which I usually don’t like, they all three do such a great job of it that it is right to have different narrators for each book. The fantasy aspect of the books (dragons, magic and objects of great power) doesn’t seem so fantastical at all which gives the books more of a historical telling rather than make believe. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and only wish there were more in the pipelines

I’ve finished all three…

Epic story, loved it.
I really enjoy authors who capture you in their stories.
This is the epic of old, a dragon, a girl, a slave, a love forbidden.
The narrator bought the story to life in it’s telling, well done to both author and narrator.
Definitely worth listening to in my opinion xx

Don’t try and make sense of this book. Very bland and uninteresting and plots were “wait what?”

Boring
