A Shoplifter's Guide to Wizardry

Jennifer Knight is fresh out of high school, still lives in her alcoholic mother’s house, has no car, and is so over everything, she’s taken to shoplifting simply for the fun of it. Of course, nicking what doesn’t belong to you is a whole lot easier when you possess a magic jewelry box with the power to make anything disappear.

Jennifer Knight, aspiring magic-wielder and recovering kleptomaniac, has been living large ever since accepting her invitation to attend a prestigious wizard college in northern Pennsylvania. But when her goblin boss disappears, the magical portal in her backyard stops working, and her enigmatic shape-shifting protector warns her to avoid wizards at all costs, she begins to worry she’ll never make it to orientation. 

The year is 1985: A gallon of gas is roughly a dollar, New Coke is a bust, "We Are the World” is a number one hit, and none of that really matters. Because Jennifer Knight is no longer on Earth. After slipping through her enemies' fingers, Jennifer Knight has fled to Magus, the gothic world where she was born. Here—along with her mother, her best friend, and a mystical guru—Jen discovers an exotic, fantastical world where magic, not technology, reigns supreme. The excitement of that moment proves short-lived.

After battling warrior elves and high wizards on Magus, she thinks she might have an edge when she returns to Earth. She is wrong. LaPointe and her wizards are threatening to close the portals between worlds, and they need Jennifer to make it happen. The best thing she can do is lie low, but that is not her style. With no word about her missing werewolf boyfriend, and her house under gnome surveillance, Jen strikes out on her own to infiltrate the wizards and find answers.
