Major Vince Lombard, Galactic Marine Corps (Ret.) is a professional gambler, slowly working his way back to Earth, one gambling station at a time, when he finds himself at the center of brewing storm. Someone has taken an interest in an old Earth legend, but for what purpose, no one seems to know, exactly.

February, 1964: Two men die in a squalid alley in a bad neighborhood. New York homicide detective Seamus O'Reilly receives the shock of his life when he looks at the men's identification: J. Edgar Hoover, the famous, tyrannical director of the FBI, and his number-one assistant, Clyde Tolson. O'Reilly teams up with FBI agent Frank Bryce to solve the second high-level assassination in only three months. In November of the previous year, someone had assassinated President John F. Kennedy.

The DRAG.N units were invented to support the marriage of the Universal Health Initiative (UHI) and Green Nation. Their purpose: mass airborne vaccinations to ensure health for all US citizens. The illogically expensive vaccines serve another purpose though. Laced with behavioral modification drugs, the REP vaccine has created a docile, drugged, and receptive American populace. The anti-UHI activists are determined to takedown the DRAG.N and the corrupt healthcare system.

Captain Vince Lombard, G-Marine company commander, is tasked with tracking down a stray ship. The Alliance Military Ship StarFire has gone silent, and previous attempts to locate her have resulted in the loss of more ships. After two previous wars with xenospecies humanity bumped into while expanding into space, no one knows what might be the cause of StarFire's missing in action status.
