Pilot X is Ambassador of the Alendans, a race with the ability to move through space and time as guardians of the timeline. Locked in ongoing conflict with the Sensaurians, an organic hive mind that can send messages in thought throughout its own history, and the Progons, a machine race who can communicate backwards in time, Pilot X finally manages to create peace among the three races.

Vera is an analyst who wants to find enough time outside of work to learn to love jazz. She can't. The Pavaria has been cut off from the other colony starships due to an ancient prohibition against powering its broken engines. Nathe is volunteered to travel to the far end of the ship to search for the lost notes of Bev Bora which may reveal the secret to restoring full power. But someone doesn't want him to find it. And they're willing to commit murder by jaguar - or worse - to stop him.

Mya is a salvager in a system long ago mined out and abandoned by the Gallium Corporation. But when she finds an ancient ship buried deep on a moon, someone tries to stop her. What did she find? Why do they want to leave it hidden? And should Mya risk her job - and her life - to make the salvage of a lifetime?

Pilot X is riddled with guilt. After facing the impossible decision to eliminate his own people or save the universe, he is the lone survivor of a time-traveling race. But Pilot X soon finds that he’s got more than his own guilt to contend with. His timeship Verity detects a signal that someone is working to recreate the dangerous technology that threatened the universe in the first place. Pilot X now sets off to save a universe he no longer recognizes, but feels frighteningly familiar.
