Summer 1918 and stylish lady detective Miss Isabel Hewitt is approached by a nervous young woman, Miss Rosalind Rafferty. She claims she is being terrorised by a ghost and is in fear of her life. She lives in a cottage on her late fiancé' Captain Reuben Gifford's family estate in Hickory Green Hertfordshire. Her maid, Margery died a couple of weeks before after being bitten by an unknown creature. The doctor attending said it was natural causes but Rosalind is not convinced. The maid's mother has asked for a second opinion.

But the girl is currently missing.

The funds are for a small military hospital where her former manservant Clarke works as an orderly. But her rehearsal is interrupted when a Mrs. Peveril calls to ask Isabel to look into the suicide of her daughter Leah. The family hope the girl did not kill herself.

Danny has a new phone and wants to play on it, but his mum sends him upstairs to clear his Great Gran's box room. Danny finds an old photograph of a girl about his age and some small paintings tied in a red ribbon. When he undoes the ribbon, the girl from the photograph appears in the room. Her name is Kitty. She asks him to play a game with the pictures, but he is rude to her, saying he'd rather play on his phone. Kitty is offended and whisks him back to 1886, where the paintings are all real people. The game is that he has to find the person to help him unlock time to get back home.

Stylish lady detective Miss Isabel Hewitt is approached by a young convalescing soldier Captain Alex Fraser. He is anxious to trace his natural mother, as he was given away at birth. Isabel agrees to take on the case even though she suspects the mother may be a friend of hers.

Isabel's lawyer friend, Hugh Bernard, has recommended her to this lady. Avis' son, 2nd Lieutenant Billy Willow has been arrested for the murder of a 10 year old girl, Alice Magwood, down in the village of Chandlers Fork.

A notorious burglar known as The Snowman is currently terrorising the West End of London. Targeting the rich and fashionable, he leaves no evidence, except his calling card, a naively drawn snowman. Stylish lady detective, Miss Isabel Hewitt, is approached by retired actor Sir Willard Erskine and asked to find who this man is. Isabel has never investigated a burglar before but takes on the commission, as she has contacts in the criminal world, who may be able to help her.

Autumn 1917 and Great Britain is still at war with Germany. Stylish lady detective, Miss Isabel Hewitt and her household are coping with the hardships of the Home Front, when she learns that her sweetheart and former confidant, Clarke, has been badly injured. She hopes he will be repatriated soon but there is no time to plan, as she is approached by a Lady Shillington for help. The lady has been conducting an illicit affair and has been photograph with her lover.
