"Mi piacciono i toscanismi della lingua di Collodi, adoro la sua voce e le voci dei suoi personaggi, che io provavo ad accennare quando leggevo il racconto ai figlioli prima di addormentarli. Le sue pagine sembrano fatte apposta per la lettura ad alta voce. La voce di Collodi è aspra, concreta, esatta, abrasiva. Ha una musica stupenda, ruvida, e a volte può essere languida e dolcissima, ma sempre accompagnata da un sorrisetto di beffa.
