Poco podía imaginar Meryem el giro que iba a dar su vida cuando de niña caminaba hasta el pozo del oasis en el que vivía, en pleno Sahara. La pequeña Alba había vivido toda su vida en un orfanato. Los demás la llamaban "Pata-alambre" para burlarse de ella. Siempre le echaban las culpas de todo lo malo que pasaba en el orfanato y la habían castigado tantas veces que era incapaz de recordar lo que era vivir sin que la encerraran en la celda del sótano, donde solo le daban pan y agua días enteros, o sin que le dieran varazos. Pero todo cambió para Alba el día que llegó Pepón al orfanato.
