The classic story of Dracula, made and remade again and again, is indeed quite the adventure story filled with dark themes and motifs. Concepts such as love, death, possession, and motivation are present throughout this intense novel. Made famous by Bram Stoker in 1897, Dracula has been relegated to a variety of genres, as it does not seem to fit into just one. This is made immediately clear when the plot begins to unfold and we meet the characters as well as the plot twists that lurk around every corner.

Charlotte Brontë's classic novel, Jane Eyre, brings to life the ups and downs encountered by the book's namesake, the young Jane Eyre. Orphaned at an early age, Jane is raised by her aunt, Mrs. Reed, who treats her poorly. Fortunately for Jane, she is sent away to the Lowood School, but she soon encounters more maltreatment at the hands of the headmaster. She later moves to the manor known as Thornfield, where she accepts a nanny position, and it is there that she encounters the famed Mr. Rochester, with whom she falls in love.

A timeless hero and a giver to the people, the beloved character of Robin Hood comes alive in the novel by Howard Pyle. Published in 1883, the book follows the charismatic English outlaw on his adventures with his Merry Men as they navigate the forest as well as other important locations in Nottingham. Throughout each section of the book, Robin Hood must evade getting caught by police and other authority figures, for he has been classified a criminal by the people in power.

Jonathan Swift's classic novel about the loveable Lemuel Gulliver is one that is taught in high schools around the country, and for good reason. Gulliver, who is a surgeon aboard a ship, thinks that he is about to embark on a run-of-the-mill voyage to different ports. Throughout his journey, however, there are a few events that take place that redirect his ship to unfamiliar islands. Not only are they unfamiliar to him, but they are inhabited by natives who are shaped and sized much differently than he is.

Set in Medieval England, The Legends of King Arthur and his Knights by Sir James Knowles takes the listener on one adventure after another filled with magic and danger. When King Vortigern, the unrightful king of England plans to kill Merlin, Merlin tells the prophecy of his downfall and also predicts the birth of a new and powerful king, Arthur Pendragon. Merlin's prediction comes true, and Arthur is born and raised in secret by Merlin.

The novel provides insight and a bit of satire regarding the everyday humdrum in small towns. Cranford is separated into 16 chapters, opening with a snapshot of Captain Brown and his two daughters who live in the book's namesake town: Cranford. The gossipy women of the town are slow to accept Brown socially, but they eventually welcome him into their circles. Captain Brown is later injured, and the responsibility of the house falls on his younger daughter.

The Call of the Wild is a tale of instincts and wilderness, man and wild, work and loyalty. Written and published by Jack London in the early 1900s, the novel has become one of the pinnacles of American literature, as it details the sheer willpower and stamina at the heart of the country during the Klondike Gold Rush of the 1890s. The main character is a large dog named Buck who is stolen and sold to dog traders where he is forced to work during the madness that is the Gold Rush.

Moll hones her ability to convince men that she's a wealthy widow, although throughout the course of the novel, her finances take many a dip, especially after she moves to America like her mother. While there, she continuously tries to evade the law and the harsh sentences that come with some of her money-related crimes and later decides to move back to England after getting her hands on the inheritance money that her mother left her.

Far from the Madding Crowd, which first appeared in Cornhill Magazine in monthly installments back in the late 19th century, features the love life of the young Bathsheba Everdene who is as poor as she is beautiful. Fortunately, Bathsheba's uncle leaves her his farm, which she goes to manage in the small town of Weatherbury. Before she leaves, however, she has an interesting encounter with a young farmer, Gabriel Oak, for whom she does a tremendous favor ,and he becomes indebted to her....

In a series of complicated and complex cycles of births, deaths, marriages, and reunions, Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights encapsulates much of what life was like in 18th-century England for the noble estate owners and members of prestigious social classes. Told through a series of memories from the housekeeper of a nearby manor, the novel details the adoption of Heathcliff, who currently owns the Wuthering Heights manor when the story begins.

Published in 1894 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of 11 different stories that center on the beloved character of Sherlock Holmes. The first of these stories is entitled "Silver Blaze", and chronicles Sherlock Holmes' attempts to not only track down a race horse who has disappeared, but to find out who has murdered the horse's trainer.

L.M. Montgomery's novel introduces the world to the lovable and energetic Anne, who at the beginning of the audiobook is adopted by the Cuthbert siblings, Matthew and Marilla. The brother and sister realize that they are getting up in their years, and intend to adopt a young boy to help Matthew maintain the property.

A classic tale of the journeys and challenges faced by young boys unravels in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The energetic Tom - who lives with his aunt - is frequently made to do things that he simply does not want to do; namely, going to school and to church. His days off are Saturdays, but when he misbehaves, even those are taken away from him by Aunt Polly. Yet after Tom and his friends witness a murder, for whom the wrong person is blamed, his summer of adventures truly begins.

The young Oliver is orphaned practically at birth, and when he grows up, he is passed off to several people who simply put him to work without really caring for him. Oliver escapes after being put to work by a coffin-maker, yet his new found freedom leads him right to a few individuals who do not have his best interests in mind. They're so-called friends who take him in, yet they have the intention of priming him to be a pick-pocket. But with each downturn in his life, there is a corresponding up-swing for Oliver.

Beyond Good and Evil gives profound insight into the personal philosophies of one of history's greats, Friedrich Nietzsche. Within the work, first published in 1886, you'll find close to 300 of Nietzsche's aphorisms, organized by theme and spanning nine chapters. Nietzsche begins his work by stating that all philosophies are nothing more than the complex personal opinions by the philosophers that put them forth, and that it's the listener's responsibility to weed out the subjective from the true philosophy.

The classic children's tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz written by L. Frank Baum follows the adventures of young Dorothy, who lives in Kansas with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. As many fans know from the beloved film adaptation of the book, a terrible swirling cyclone sweeps through the prairie area where Dorothy and her family are living, and in an attempt to get to safety, Dorothy's dog Toto buries himself under a bed. The house is picked up by the extreme winds, and when Dorothy awakens after the event, she is no longer in the town she calls home.

Following the framework of a tale within a tale, Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein, which features the subtitle The Modern Prometheus follows the scientific - and at times horrific - exploits of Victor Frankenstein. Victor studied alchemy in college, and after a mere two years he figures out that he can put human body pieces back together and restore the entire corpse to life.

Through a series of calculated moves that involve death and a large inheritance, a small community is rocked and shrouded in mystery at the hands of the conniving Sir Percival Glyde, who is interested only in making himself wealthy at the hands of others.... Celebrated as one of the first popular mystery novels, The Woman in White, by Wilkie Collins, skillfully incorporates the twisting and turning of more than a few plot lines that all manage to converge beautifully at the end of the work.

Nowadays, it would not seem an insurmountable task to make it around the world in 80 days. Yet, when Jules Verne published this novel in 1873, this was a phenomenon that many doubted was remotely possible. We are at first introduced to Phileas Fogg, who lives in London and has just fired his valet for silly reasons. Fogg then hires Jean Passepartout who, at the time of hire, has no idea of the adventure that his new boss will take him on. Fogg learns that it is now possible to travel around the world - starting and ending up in London - in only 80 days.
