Written for the general lay listener, The Living Universe explores how the latest scientific discoveries are rewriting what we thought we knew about space, planets, and the origins of life. We now know that the universe is filled with planets, not just around other stars but also traveling in the space between them, and that many of these carry life with them. Some of these wandering planets have almost certainly been captured by the Sun's gravity, changing not just the arrangement of planets in the Solar System, but also the development of life on our Earth.

Neil deGrasse Tyson has a talent for guiding readers through the mysteries of outer space with stunning clarity and almost childlike enthusiasm. This collection of his essays from Natural History magazine explores a myriad of cosmic topics. Tyson introduces us to the physics of black holes by explaining what would happen to our bodies if we fell into one; he also examines the needless friction between science and religion, and notes Earth's status as "an insignificantly small speck in the cosmos".

In Fantastic Numbers and Where to Find Them, leading theoretical physicist and YouTube star Antonio Padilla takes us on an irreverent cosmic tour of nine of the most extraordinary numbers in physics. We have the impression that the solar system is perfectly regular like a clock or a planetarium instrument. On a short time scale it is. In The Elephant in the Universe, Govert Schilling explores the fascinating history of the search for dark matter. Evidence for its existence comes from a wealth of astronomical observations.
