After narrowly avoiding the end of the world, the leaders of Heaven and Hell are struggling to collaborate according to the terms of their new treaty - especially because angels and demons are, quite literally, allergic to each other. Seeking a solution, the powers that be decide to see if the allergy persists on Earth by sending an angel and demon on a research trip, first stop: New York City. And what better chaperone than Dr Greta Helsing, who happens to owe Hell a few favours of her own?

Ajax was alive. That in itself was a wonder to him. Knowing that his elf companions had also been given new life by the angelic being known as Quala was a supreme joy. For that gift, he would sing Quala's praises to the new world upon which he now walked. His task was simple: To revive the faith in the old gods. In so doing, he could reconnect the peoples of the world with the beings who created them. The only issue is that this world is ruled by orcs dedicated to a different faith. A faith that rejects such ideas and is willing to eradicate any who oppose them.

Elves are the undisputed masters of the world. From the earliest time of his life, Ajax was granted the dubious honor to be trained as a "mud-knight", a human granted privileges and treated with small scraps of honor in exchange for helping defend his Elf King's realms from orcs and other monster invaders. But when he learns his King intends to unlock dangerous magic by killing a helpless soul, the knight casts aside his vows of servitude, steals away the enslaved soul, and becomes an errant roaming the land in hopes of setting that soul free.

"A pirate's life for me", that is Celeste's plan. Revenge drives her to be daring. Attacks by smoke demons, and the appearance of a swashbuckling rogue - a handsome rogue with magical powers - detracts her from the mission and reveals frightening truths about her family. Orion is a time walker - a protector of the human race - and warrior against the Underworld King and his minions. The shadowy creatures seek the young woman who has the blood of the gods running through her veins. Orion senses something mysterious - and wrong - in Celeste's blood.
