Dan Brown's International best-seller The DaVinci Code has raised many questions in the minds of readers. The DaVinci Code, in blurring the lines between fact and fiction, popularizes the speculations and contentions of numerous more serious books that are also attracting wide attention. How should we respond to such claims that we now have documents that reveal secrets about Jesus, secrets long suppressed by the church and other religious institutions?

This book welcomes listeners to appreciate the origins of Christianity within the Roman world in which early Christianity got its first foothold. It does that by immersing listeners in the life and culture of two thriving first-century towns—Pompeii and Herculaneum. Those towns (destroyed in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 CE) act as showpieces of the world into which the early Christian movement was spreading.

Mary’s Journey describes the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of the Lord and his foremost disciple, as a model for following Jesus in our own time. The book begins by tracing her life journey of faith and discipleship in the New Testament. A second section describes the Church’s journey of faith with her in the four major Marian doctrines. Finally, the book links our journey of prayer with Mary by considering the principal Marian feast days and various devotions. The overall aim of the book is to draw us closer to the Blessed Virgin Mary and, through her, closer to her son, Jesus Christ.
