We very quickly get to love the king and queen and are transported into their world and how they go about their lives at and away from the palace. Politics and fashion are at the forefront during this particular phase of their lives. They are very entertaining characters who perhaps, despite being royalty, are no different than you and me.

This story was first published in The Week's News of 5 May 1888, and in Volume VI of The Indian Railway Library the same year. It was included in Wee Willie Winkie and Other Stories, published in 1890, and in numerous later editions of that collection.
