Honey Santana is determined to set up her own tour business, paddling tourists around the Florida Everglades in ocean kayaks. The result is a kayaking trip from hell, and an unplanned overnight stay on Dismal Key, one of the Everglades' islands.

Remember the '90s? I do. As a teenager in the small town of Vernal, I remember the parties and the dances and the drugs and the truancy and the evasion of authority figures. What incredible fun. I remember something else as well. I remember something the rest of that town does not. I’m not saying they’ve forgotten. I’m saying they never formed the memories in the first place. I’m talking about three days in this hick town in the American West which have been lost to history.

Il y avait là de petites villes avec leurs églises, quelques commerces, des champs, et au loin, la centrale. C’était un coin paisible entouré de montagnes et de forêts. Jusqu’à l’accident. Il a fallu évacuer, condamner la zone, fuir les radiations. Certains ont choisi de rester malgré tout. Trop de souvenirs les attachaient à ces lieux, ils n’auraient pas vraiment trouvé leur place ailleurs. Marc, Alessandro, Lorna, Sarah et Fred sont de ceux-là. Leur amitié leur permet de tenir bon, de se faire les témoins inutiles de ce désert humain à l’herbe grasse et à la terre empoisonnée.
