Remember the '90s? I do. As a teenager in the small town of Vernal, I remember the parties and the dances and the drugs and the truancy and the evasion of authority figures. What incredible fun. I remember something else as well. I remember something the rest of that town does not. I’m not saying they’ve forgotten. I’m saying they never formed the memories in the first place. I’m talking about three days in this hick town in the American West which have been lost to history.

I’ve finally got my sister back. Now, if we can just catch up with our friends and find a way home...it’s only 300 miles away. When we’re offered a deal that seems to include everything we need to get home, the only choice is to accept. Never mind that the cost is our silence, along with taking a slight excursion along the way. The clock is ticking and we’re sworn to secrecy. Can we reach home in time and keep our promises? The road ahead is nowhere near easy. Tag along with Quinn and Riley as they attempt to reach their safe haven before devastation erupts.

When Quinn and Riley set out on a family vacation with their parents, the trip ends before it begins. Mother Nature interferes with their plans, setting off a sequence of events that thrusts the teens into a hostile landscape. Stranded with limited supplies and struggling to figure out who they can trust along the way, they must determine how to survive nature’s evolving fury.

Night was beginning to fall in the tranquil mountain valley, and the long workday at the Topp family farm had come to an end. Fall weather had once again returned, along with the exploding colors of the tree's leaves. The unmistakable sound of the elks' trumpeting calls had also returned to the valley - announcing the beginning of their mating season. It was truly a wondrous time for the elk, but it could also be a very dangerous time.

Quinn doesn’t know it, but at this moment I am finally claiming the role I earned the day she was born. I’m the older sister, but only chronologically. Quinn was always braver and bolder. And now, as my fractured world shatters once again, the person I care about most has a target on her back. If I can’t muster some semblance of strength, the road ahead will break me. Right now, I’m the only one who has any ability to keep Quinn safe. I have no choice. Go willingly or put my sister in danger. It’s not a question. I will protect her the only way I can.
