The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs South Dakota announced in 2011 that it now has discovered 60 specimens of prehistoric animals in this unique paleontological site. This is where, more than 26,000 years ago, large Columbian and woolly mammoths were trapped and died in a spring-fed pond. Now we visit the in-situ site. In 1937 vaudeville and silver-screen actor Leo Carrillo (the Cisco Kid) purchased, and preserved over 2,000 acres of the southwest US's rolling hills. The 27 acres that remain today are known as the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Our tour of the Carrillo Ranch includes the Spanish-style home, barns, and other out buildings.
