Wiborada war die Tochter einer vornehmen alemannischen Familie im 10. Jahrhundert und entschied sich für einen radikalen Lebensweg. Im Jahr 916 ließ sie sich von Bischof Salomon von Konstanz als sogenannte Inklusin einmauern – in einer Zelle an der Magnus-Kirche in St. Gallen, der heutigen reformierten St. Mangenkirche. Ihre Zelle hatte keine Tür, sondern nur zwei Fenster: eines zur Kirche, das andere zur Welt. Durch dieses zweite Fenster wurde sie zu einer gefragten Ratgeberin, selbst für hohe politische und geistliche Würdenträger ihrer Zeit.
Auch heute gibt es wieder Inklusen in Sankt Gallen. Ich habe sie besucht.
