About this listen
BIG IDEA: Jesus’ concept of true prayer includes principles and a pattern.
*The six principles of true prayer in Jesus’ response:
1) Regular prayer can be counted on. (v.5a)
2) Performative prayer must be condemned. (v.5,6)
3) Some prayer can be corporate. (v.7a)
4) Effective prayer can be concise. (v.7b-8)
5) The approach of prayer must be kinship-based. (v.8b)
6) The manner of prayer can be conventional. (v.9a)
*The six-petition pattern of true prayer in Jesus’ response:
A. For God’s Glory:
1) A petition about God’s character.
2) A petition about God’s kingdom.
3) A petition about God’s commands.
B. For Our Good:
1) A petition about our daily conditions.
2) A petition about our past crimes.
3) A petition about our future crucibles.
