• Episode #47 - Fuller Preterism with Daniel Rogers
    Sep 30 2025

One of my first ever guests was Daniel Rogers, who gave perhaps the best answer on the question what's the point anyway that I've heard - to love and to be loved. Daniel is a young and impressive guy who is a Pastor at a Baptist Church that was one of the leading content creators in the world of preterism. Recently, Daniel has ruffled a few feathers by breaking from what some might call 'orthodox' full preterism and instead exploring how ideas he has about eschatology can be congruent with what the early Church Fathers have taught. Daniel hasn't become Catholic, but he's gone on a very similar journey to me with where his studies are leading him so I thought it would be great to bring him back on.

Please note that after 47 episodes in just under a year, I've decided to take a break from the podcast and this will be the last episode for a while. Juggling recordings on the other side of the world where timezones never line up, along with full time work and 3 young kids has been a constant challenge and I just need some time to reset. I've also learned so much personally from the episodes and anyone who has listened to me since the first one will see just how much my position has changed and much of that has been thanks to the conversations I've had. Thanks to everyone for tuning in and please keep in touch - the best way to keep contact remains X, at least for now.

    Cheers Luke

  • Episode #46 - The Next Generation of Catholic Converts with Emily Torres
    Aug 29 2025

As is probably the case for anyone interested in Catholic or Christian content, I came across some great little videos from Emily Torres AKA Catholic.Converts in my journey to study the Catholic faith and was immediately impressed by her wisdom and intellect. I also saw that as someone in her early 20's, she was very good at using the mediums of this present age like Instagram & TikTok to present things in a way that speaks to a modern audience.

I was thrilled when I reached out to her and she was all too willing to join me on the show. This was a really fun conversation, where we spoke a lot about the youth of today and how things like AI are influencing the way we communicate and learn. She also shared her story on how she came to first believe, then later entered into the Catholic Church and what that means for her now in her day to day life which also includes working at CatholicAnswers.com.

Check out all of Emily's content on YouTube or search catholic.converts across other platforms.

  • Episode #45 - Converting the Blue Devils and studying to become a Priest with Josh Miller
    Aug 12 2025

After my conversation with Dr John Bergsma recently, I was blessed in the process to become acquainted with the team at St Paul Center who were so helpful for that interview and have continued to stay in touch afterwards. I received an email recently from Elisa, who suggested that one of their recent authors Josh Miller would make for a fantastic guest and I wasn't let down.

Josh is an extremely interesting and clever guy, who grew up in a Protestant Christian home but eventually entered the Catholic Church and published the book Converting the Blue Devils about the similar experience of 9 of his college mates.

Like me, in the moments before the conversion he was deeply anti-Catholic but tells the story about how that position changed layer by layer and over a period of years. And now he's doing something that he wouldn't have believed in a million years - undertaking studies to eventually become an ordained Priest. On that topic, we spoke about what it means for a young and highly credentialed guy to choose that path over the lure of family, business or anything else.

I highly recommend checking out the book, which you can pick up at the St Paul Center and be sure to follow them on Instagram for the latest releases at @stpaulcenter and @emmausroadpublishing.

  • Episode #44 - Bouncing Around Ideas with the OG of Preterism Mr Don K Preston
    Jul 27 2025

Anyone who has ever lifted the lid on preterism has almost certainly come across Don Preston in their studies - and they'll either love him or hate him! I disagree with Don on many things, but I've always warmed to him so it was great to finally get him on the show. We worked out that he became a preterist the year after I was born, which shows just how long he's been at it.

We spoke a lot about the Olivet Discourse, 2 Peter 3, the shame vs glory motif and the role of the New Covenant Church in healing the nations. The final point being the key topic that Don concedes we've often done a poor job at, which was one of the biggest factors in my Catholic conversion.

  • Episode #43 - From Military to Faith, a Life of Service with Jeff Jones
    Jul 13 2025

A mutual contact on X reached out to me and recommended I get in touch with Jeff and I'm glad that I did. Jeff shares his journey from military service to civilian life, discussing the challenges and rewards of transitioning out of the military. He reflects on the connection between his faith and military values, the cultural shifts in attitudes towards Christianity, and the unique challenges faced by the Catholic Church in America. The discussion also touches on the importance of understanding life, the role of science in faith discussions, and the insights provided by Jeff's book, 'Unforeseeable: a Bargain with Time: The Cost of a Better Tomorrow' - a story that helps a society of non-believers who are not shaped through the morality of Christianity to see the consequences of actions that they otherwise might think of as being good.

You can check out Jeff's book and purchase it here on Amazon:

    Jun 26 2025

    🔥 Show Notes:

In this powerhouse episode of What’s the Point Anyway, host Luke sits down with Dr. John Bergsma—renowned biblical scholar, convert, and senior fellow at the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology—for a theologically rich, deeply personal, and spiritually moving conversation.

    🚨 You’ll hear:

    • Dr. Bergsma’s journey from Dutch Calvinist pastor to Catholic theologian
    • Why sola scriptura and sola fide didn’t hold up under biblical scrutiny
    • How Catholicism reveals the Church as the Davidic Kingdom
    • A stunning breakdown of the Eucharist, the priesthood, and biblical continuity
    • What Catholics and (yes) Preterists surprisingly have in common
    • The "already and not yet" of biblical prophecy—and why the Catholic Church is Eden restored
    • How Catholic faith becomes real when suffering hits home

✨ With references to St. Ignatius of Antioch, Isaiah 66, Revelation 22, and Hebrews, Dr. Bergsma provides profound insights that will challenge, deepen, and inspire your view of Scripture, tradition, and the purpose of the Church.

  • Episode #41 - Wading Through Christian Cults And Finding Peace with Catherine Gavin
    Jun 17 2025

Catherine is a fellow Aussie who I was connected to via our mutual friend and former guest, Rick Welch. Though we both have come to similar conclusions on our Biblical studies, we recorded this episode right after I'd converted to the Catholic Church and it was interesting to 'compare notes' given Catherine grew up Catholic but has arrived at a different conclusion to myself.

We spoke about the importance of understanding the spiritual implications of biblical knowledge, the role of authority in church dynamics, and the personal journeys that lead to shifts in belief. Catherine shares her experiences transitioning from being part of cult-like Christian denominations to ultimately leaving that world and embracing fulfilled eschatology.

  • Episode #40 - A walk through all the 'isms' with Ray Alex Williams
    May 30 2025

As I reach episode #40 in this series, I was fortunate enough to connect with Ray Alex Williams who may just be my most interesting guest yet.

As the title suggests, this is an episode where we walk through just about every single 'ism' that you've ever heard of - and Ray has experienced all of them. Starting out in new atheism, then spending an decade in academia where his political views became typically left wing, he ended up venturing into transgenderism and identified as a female for a period of time.

He was able to move out of that scene and just this year, he completed his OCIA and became a Roman Catholic. Quite the transformation!

Having studied philosophy, Alex is extremely well versed on all things from atheism to materialism and he brings an incredible amount of personal insight from his own experience on many of these otherwise difficult topics.
