About this listen
Welcome to episode 4 of American Overseas: US expats abroad
America is the only first-world country in the world that enforces a tax duty on American citizens, wherever they live or work.
I'm Linda Mabelis and today I'm speaking with experience expat Daan Durlacher about US expats abroad.
The subject: What to do and what not to do when you’re a US expat abroad.
When you leave the US and start living in a European country, you get in an exceptional situation where you have to file both in the US, because you’re a US citizen, and in the country where you’re living. And that’s a new situation. You have 2 filing obligations per year.
