Lack of proper clothing is a major reason children miss school, and the need for proper clothing continues to grow. EMS Closet was founded in in Columbia in 2019 by three generations of educators to meet the needs of children living in poverty. EMS provides gift bags of new and nearly new clothing, shoes, new underwear and socks, a stuffed animal, and a book to children in grades K-12 in Richland School Districts One and Two whose families have encountered hardship.
