Haugsand ha realizado giras por Europa, Israel y Estados Unidos. Entre sus grabaciones más importantes se incluyen las Variaciones Goldberg BWV 988 de Johann Sebastian Bach y varias grabaciones con la Orquesta Barroca Noruega. Fue profesor de música en la Norges musikkhøgskole (NMH) de 1974 a 1995. Desde 1995, es profesor en la Hochschule für Musik Köln, Alemania.
