About this listen

This Must Be The Place is a podcast about communities and the people who build, support, and live in them. How do communities come together? What are the intentional and unintentional decisions that make them who they are? How are they shaped by different styles of leadership and vision? What does community mean to us in our current world? I'll be reaching out to an eclectic group of participants from technology, tv, music and other disciplines to talk about how communities form and why it works (or doesn't.)© 2025 Greg Dunlap Economics Management Management & Leadership Social Sciences

  • Episode 15: Bruce Adams on Kranky Records and Low
    Jan 4 2023
On November 6, 2022, Mimi Parker of the band Low died of ovarian cancer. I, like many fans of the band, found myself grieving and struggling to process this event, so I invited an old friend Bruce Adams to join me on the podcast. Bruce was the co-founder of Kranky Records, who released 3 albums and 2 EPs by the band, as well as being a huge fan himself. Together we talk about Low and what made them so special and why they struck such a chord with their fanbase. We also talk about Kranky's founding and why Chicago was and continues to be such a special place for music and community. Special Guest: Bruce Adams.
