About this listen

Access to cleanliness is a human right, but for those living on the streets, it’s never that simple. Daily hygiene is not only an ongoing challenge for people experiencing homelessness, but a major roadblock to the things we take for granted like social acceptance, health, access to the job market, mental wellbeing, and more. The feeling of cleanliness goes beyond just a physical feeling. It can bring people joy, hope, strength, and a sense of dignity they may have lost along the way. Join us as we pull back the curtain on the intricacies around homelessness and cleanliness. We’ll break down biases, come to new understandings about, and share intimate stories from our unhoused communities. On The Right To Shower, we talk to NGO and business leaders, politicians, experts, and our unhoused neighbors and friends, in order to understand the change even a single shower can make in someone’s life.2023 Hygiene & Healthy Living Political Science Politics & Government Psychology Psychology & Mental Health Social Sciences

  • Health and Hygiene to Those Who Need It
    Jul 14 2022

Welcome back to The Right To Shower, where we believe access to cleanliness is a fundamental human right. Today, host Darius Baxter is joined by the co-founder and co-director of Archangel Raphael’s Mission, or ARM, John El-Maraghy! Hear about the amazing work ARM is doing and the services they provide to those experiencing homelessness. John discusses how he was spurred into public service, and provides information for others looking to get involved. The duo also discuss ARMs partnership with LavaMaeX, what a grant from The Right To Shower has allowed ARM to accomplish, and some considerations for those experiencing homelessness during the summer months.

Cleanliness is a fundamental right and no one should ever feel like they don’t have access to a way to get clean.
