Bringing Community Together: First Responders, Flag Football, and Family Fun at Delaware County’s Biggest Event

Welcome to the very first episode of The Rescue Room, presented by SERVPRO of Delaware, OH and Nissan North Columbus! I’m your host, Hattie Hawks, and I couldn’t be more excited to kick off this journey with you. This podcast is all about real stories, real challenges, and genuine support for our community’s everyday heroes—our first responders.

In this debut episode, I’m joined by some incredible guests from Nissan North, SERVPRO of Delaware, Ohio, and KidsLinked. Together, we talk about what it truly means to stand behind our frontline workers. We share personal connections, discuss the power of community, and talk about the difference it makes when we all pitch in.

You’ll hear stories close to my heart—like how we helped send a local student to college with a scholarship, raised thousands for first responders, and built Delaware County’s biggest family-centered event. And yes, we sprinkle in some friendly firehouse rivalry and a lot of laughter along the way!

For me, it’s all about celebrating resilience, connection, and the way we all show up for each other. If you’re looking for inspiration, ideas on how to support our heroes, or just a feel-good reminder of the good in our world, you’re in the right place. I can’t wait for you to listen—and maybe, join us at the next big community event.

  • We Welcome Matt Brown
    Oct 29 2025

Resilient Bodies, Resilient Minds: Navigating Health, Recovery, and Service

We dig into what it means to be a rescue for someone else—because at some point, we all need one.

I’m Hattie Hawks, your host, and I’m so glad to have you here. Presented by SERVPRO of Delaware, Ohio and Nissan North Columbus, this episode is all about honest conversations, celebrating resilience, and exploring how our community comes together when it matters most.

In today’s episode, I sit down with former UFC fighter Matt Brown, who shares his incredible journey from a small-town upbringing and addiction to making it to the top ranks in professional fighting. Matt opens up about how he rebuilt his body and mind, the power of self-love, and why his mission now is to support others—especially first responders—through his martial arts gym and holistic health approach.

We’re also joined by Sarah, who bravely shares her own story of overcoming obesity and reinventing her health with medical advancements like peptides and hormone therapy. She gives great insight into why these treatments are so important for our first responders and anyone struggling to thrive.

Amira from Custom Fundraising Solutions joins us to talk about her innovative mattress fundraiser, helping schools and those in need get better sleep—and a better start in life. And Becky, a dedicated social worker, shares ground-level stories about the realities faced by people who’ve lost their homes, explaining just how powerful community support can be.

This episode is close to my heart, because we cover so much—from mental health and physical healing, to the ways local businesses and individuals create safety nets for our most vulnerable neighbors. These are stories of true resilience, informed by personal experience, and fueled by the desire to lift each other up.

  • Friendly Rivalries and Big Hearts: Fire Departments Unite for a Cause
    Oct 29 2025

If you love a good underdog story, want to hear how we fire up the spirit of giving (and competition), or just want a glimpse behind the firefighter curtain, you’re in the right place.

Welcome back to The Rescue Room! I’m Hattie Hawks, and in this episode, I sit down with Shay and Hadley from the Orange Township Fire Department for a conversation that’s as spirited as it is insightful. We talk about the unique camaraderie and fierce competition that fuel first responders—not just on emergency calls, but also on the flag football field during our upcoming charity tournament.

You’ll hear my firsthand take on the playful rivalries, the relentless trash talk, and why that “alpha” energy is such a hallmark of firehouse life. Shay and Hadley share what drew them to this demanding career, what keeps them passionate, and how much their department feels like family. We swap stories about last year’s tournament—crazy games, a few battle scars, and lots of laughs—and preview everything coming up at this year’s event: from the on-field action to kid-friendly Halloween fun, Buckeye appearances, and all the ways we’re rallying the community together.

  • Coach Wade Bartholomew’s Kidney Donation and Community Impact
    Oct 29 2025

Don't miss this heartfelt conversation and discover how one coach’s selfless decision is inspiring hope and healing all across Olentangy.

Welcome to The Rescue Room—I’m Hattie Hawks, and today’s episode is one you won’t want to miss. I recently sat down with Olentangy High School football coach Wade Bartholomew, and his story truly touched me. Wade opened up about his decision to donate a kidney to our athletic secretary, Lisa, after only knowing her for less than two years.

We talked through how his selfless upbringing inspired him, the surprisingly smooth and supportive medical journey, and the profound ripple effect that his gift has had—not just for Lisa, but for his own family, our school community, and Wade’s life as a coach.

This episode goes beyond the operating room and right into the heart of our football program. Wade and I talk about the ups and downs of mentoring young athletes through high-pressure recruiting seasons, the importance of giving back through community events, and the mental health challenges facing our students—including the devastating loss of one of our players, which brought lasting changes and crucial conversations to our school.

Through Wade’s honesty and insight, we’re reminded that “rescue” isn’t just a dramatic act—it’s a daily choice to care for those around us.

Everyone needs a little rescue from time to time, and this episode is a reminder that we’re all in it together.

Welcome back to The Rescue Room! In this final episode of the season, I sit down with Leah Cottrill, owner of SERVPRO of Delaware, OH, for a powerful and personal conversation about grit, grief, and the strength of our local community. Leah opens up about her unexpected journey—from cleaning up fires as a teen for her dad’s company to stepping into ownership, all while facing some of life’s toughest moments, including the loss of her brother and keeping the business afloat during the chaos of the pandemic.

We talk about what it really means to support our first and second responders, and why building a caring, honest workplace is so important when life throws curveballs. There are plenty of laughs—especially about her “war” on Crocs in the office—but also raw, honest truths about navigating doubt, overcoming self-blame, and leading with authenticity through dark days.

You’ll hear Leah’s wisdom about supporting staff through grief, and we’ll celebrate the resilience that carries us forward. Plus, I share all the details about our upcoming flag football event—one more way we’re honoring the everyday heroes who keep our community strong.
