  • Joao Pedro turns down a move to Newcastle in favour of Chelsea
    Jun 29 2025

n a major transfer twist, Brighton striker Joao Pedro has officially chosen Chelsea over Newcastle United, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic this evening. The 23-year-old Brazilian forward, who impressed with 30 goals over two seasons at Brighton, was a top target for both Premier League clubs.

Despite strong interest and a rejected £50m bid from Newcastle, Pedro made it clear he preferred a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have now secured a deal worth over £50 million, with a seven-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2032.

1.Pedro’s decision is believed to be influenced by his desire to be a first-choice striker—something that may have been harder to guarantee at Newcastle with Alexander Isak leading the line.

    2. With Chelsea’s recent striker signings still unproven, Pedro sees a clearer path to regular starts and Champions League football.Stay tuned for more updates as Joao Pedro undergoes his medical and prepares to join Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup squad!
