The message of 1 Kings centers on God's sovereignty and the conditional nature of His blessings, highlighting how obedience leads to blessing and disobedience results in judgment. The book traces Israel’s spiritual and political journey, showing how King Solomon’s early faithfulness brought peace and prosperity, but later idolatry and compromise, by both Solomon and successive kings, led to division and decline. Prophets like Elijah rise to call the nation back to God, emphasising covenant loyalty and repentance.

This message connects to the New Testament standard of living in several ways. First, Jesus fulfils the role of the true and faithful king that Israel lacked. Unlike Solomon, Christ remains wholly obedient to the Father (Matthew 12:42). Second, just as 1 Kings calls for wholehearted devotion, the New Testament urges believers to live by the Spirit, in personal holiness, and with undivided loyalty to Christ (Romans 12:1–2). Lastly, the prophetic call to repentance in 1 Kings echoes in the New Testament, where Jesus and the apostles call people to turn from sin and follow Him (Mark 1:15).

Thus, 1 Kings challenges both ancient and modern readers to prioritise faithfulness to God, an expectation carried forward and fulfilled through Christ in the New Testament, forming the foundation of Christian living.
