About this listen
Welcome to the first-ever episode of The MCC Show! This show is designed to help EO Marketing and Communications Chairs by sharing the stories of current and past Chairs that have been there and fought those same battles. For this extra-special first episode, it’s only fitting that we have an extra-special guest who is Mark Worster! Mark shares some great insight from his experience as the President of the Boston Chapter, the Regional Expert for the MarCom Role, and the two-time Communications Chair of the Boston Chapter. You’ll hear all about how improving your communications with members impacts new referrals, where to turn with all of your burning MarCom questions, and how to enjoy your time serving in this volunteer role.
Takeaways:
~The most powerful method to attract new members is strong referrals from current EO members. You need to keep this in mind when developing the messaging to your current members because that influences the way they think about referring EO.
~You need to figure out what to include in your messaging to incentivize members to willingly bring in more referrals to things like open chapter events.
~If you are putting on a powerful event, your emails for the event should reflect how cool or novel the experience of that event will be. Overly long emails won’t get people interested in your event.
~Video clips are a powerful way to convey information about awesome events in a more personal and engaging format for chapter members to consume information.
~The production value of your email is how chapter members will think about the production value of your event. If it’s a great event make sure you have a great-looking email.
~MarCom Chairs need to find what combination of communication channels works best for the members of their chapter. Meet them where they’re at but don’t be afraid to introduce them to a new platform.
~A great resource for MarCom Chairs is the 30-minute monthly calls for the MarCom Chairs that are hosted by the regional expert. These are great because the MarCom Chairs from different chapters share their experiences with each other.
Quote of the Show:
~“I built a business on plagiarism. My competitors were doing better than me and I figured out how to do it as well as they did and then do it better” - Mark Worster
