About this listen

Next week marks one year since The BCS Podcast began. From the very beginning, the premise of The BCS Podcast has always been a British guy talking with a guest predominantly about American sports, or, as you’ve seen with some of the episodes, featuring multiple contributors who, the vast majority of the time, are giving their thoughts on American sports. With that in mind, to mark The BCS Podcast's one-year anniversary, Brett will be focusing on the differences between UK and US sports fandom. To help him do this, he speaks to two people who can give a unique perspective on this issue; Bret Griffin, an American who has lived in the UK for nearly 20 years, and Ross Worsley, a British ex-pat who now lives in the United States, on a range of issues, including the popularity of college sports in the US, UK pub vs US sports bar culture and the intensity of fandom on both sides of the Atlantic. To give the episode further perspective, Dr Mimi Thebo, a Kansas City native who now lives in Bristol, also gives her thoughts on chanting at UK sports grounds, as well as the violence and sexism that can be associated with UK pub culture.
