About this listen

Hey y’all! I’m Kaitlan, host of the Talk Wild To Me podcast. Every other week, I interview some pretty amazing people who are working on conserving and protecting our public lands. We’re talking about what they’re doing, why it matters, and how we can help. And of course, we’ll talk about what to see when you visit these places and how to recreate responsibly.Talk Wild To Me Social Sciences Travel Writing & Commentary

  • Avi Kwa Ame National Monument - Nevada
    Mar 22 2023

You may have heard of Avi Kwa Ame. Back in November 2022, President Biden committed to designating Avi Kwa Ame as a national monument and this designation is being made official as I record this introduction in March of 2023.

This week, I spoke with Craig Bakerjian, the Avi Kwa Ame campaign manager at the Nevada Conservation League and Kim Garrison Means, a Searchlight, Nevada local, artist and the co-director of the Searchlight Mystery Ranch (an art and science research station).

  • Inspiring the Next Generation in Conservation
    Mar 8 2023

Engaging the next generation in conservation is critical to protecting our environment. By helping our kids feel safe and at home in nature, we give them valuable tools for their future. And by learning alongside them, we can grow into stronger climate advocates ourselves.

This week, I spoke with Kate Ireland, a nationally-recognized global education and youth engagement expert and Director of Youth Engagement at The Nature Conservancy.

  • Whitebark Pine - Western North America
    Feb 15 2023

The whitebark pine of western North America is a critical keystone species. But in December 2022, the US Fish & Wildlife Service listed it as Threatened after concluding that it’s likely to become Endangered throughout its range.

In this episode, I talk with Mike Giesey, chairperson of the Ski Area Partnership Committee of the Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation.

Check out the show notes for ways to support the cause (especially if you love skiing) and travel inspiration.
