The UAW Women’s Department, under the direction of LaShawn English, is proud to share a new resource grounded in our ongoing commitment to advancing the rights, health, and dignity of women and working families across our union and beyond.
We’re launching the Womb to Worksite Toolkit—a powerful, easy-to-use guide designed to protect and empower pregnant, postpartum, and lactating workers, along with the union leaders, stewards, and grievance handlers who support them.
This toolkit includes clear, actionable information about key federal protections such as the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Break Time for Nursing Mothers, and the PUMP Act—plus enforcement strategies, real-life examples, and organizing tools tailored to the needs of our union members.
To expand access and learning, we’re also releasing a limited podcast series that brings these issues to life with union scenarios, and practical tools for building safer, more equitable workplaces.
Inside the Toolkit & Podcast Series, you’ll find:
A breakdown of federal workplace protections for pregnancy and postpartum
How to file and follow up on grievances
Case studies and real-world union scenarios
Tools to educate members and enforce protections locally

This effort reflects our department’s unwavering belief that care is work, and every worker deserves protection and respect. Together, we can ensure our union contracts, workplaces, and policies reflect the needs and power of working women and families.
