  • Episode 35 - David Chanell from The Fullertons - Kings of Leon, Youth and Young Manhood
    Aug 21 2025

Oasis? The Maccabees? Rilo Kiley? Wuf Lyf? The Rapture? It's been a year of big come backs.

But not one of them has the cultural heft of today's guest's truly massive comeback.

In the mid 00's David Chanell took a Hertfordshire town and injected heavy levels of indie to a place that was dangerously negelected in skinny jean wearers.

With his clubnight (and indeed his band!) back to business this Autumn, it only felt right to get David on the pod to hear about how his band, The Fullertons, went from playing Walkabout in Watford to playing shows in Moscow.

He picked an almighty riff machine of an album and in this episode, we talk about finding your tribe in independent music venues (shout out to Trinity!),having big hair and questionable scarf wearing.

If you're not a fan of the cigarette smoking Southern riff merchants, then at least listen for my truly absurd intro to this incredible album, where I imagine a world in which the fourth Kings of Leon album didn't exist...

    Enjoy irresponsibly.

  • Episode 34 - James C from The Oasis Podcast, Another Side of Bob Dylan
    Aug 14 2025

For episode 34 I'm joined by a man that is in the thick of the cultural zeitgeist, it's James C from The Oasis Podcast!

They said it would never happen, they said it would never see the light of day, but the time is right - and the time is now. Finally, I'm releasing the first EVER episode of "THIS Album..." that was ever recorded.

James and I recorded over Zoom on a Friday night back in November and though I was clearly a bit nervous recording my first podcast, James' broadcasting expertise shone through and we had a LOVELY time deep diving the folk masterpiece, Another Side of Bob Dylan.

Yes, I know what you're thinking, "Mr Oasis choosing an album that isn't by Oasis....?!!" But James decided (understandably) to swerve the bus man's holiday and branch out into non Gallagher related territory.

If you want to hear James talk about Oasis, I've got great news for you! He's got 8 years worth of episodes covering Manchester's finest, readily available wherever you find your podcasts.

Hope you enjoy the episode, but please don't judge the host (me) too harshly, it was my first time hosting a podcast!

Stay in touch, stay engaged and Stay Young.

  • Episode 33 - Alfie Jackson from The Holloways - The Holloways, So, This Is Great Britain?
    Aug 7 2025

For episode 33 of "THIS Album...' I'm joined by a man that dominated the life and times of a generation of skinny jeaned millenials. From the Holloways, it's Alfie Jackson!

Throughout 2006 and 2007, The Holloways had a strangle hold on my social life. If I wasn't going to their own headline shows, I'd be in the same clubs as them every weekend (often twice a weekend!) it truly was the best of times.

When Alfie and I spoke about him being on the podcast, I pretty much forced his hand and told him 'We're covering YOUR album."

We have loads of fun discussing those joy filled days before iphones and the impact his album had on my life and his.

The Holloways are back on the road this Autumn and during the episode Alfie reveals some VERY exciting news in the pipeline.

  • Episode 32 - Rajiv Karia - Lightspeed Champion - Falling Off The Lavender Bridge
    Jul 31 2025

New podcast day and it is a blinder!

I’m joined by a man poised to take this year’s Edinburgh Fringe by storm — the brilliant Rajiv Karia, is one half of the twisted genius behind Zoners, the maddest and best bit of TV I've seen in years.

If you are not a fan of mad coincidences then this episode will not be for you because bloody hell, there's a LOT of mad coincidences. When I invited Rajiv onto the show I had no idea we had so many mutual friends and shared experiences.

His album of choice was an absolute joy to discuss, Lightspeed Champion's debut captured pivotal moments in both our lives which we get into on the episode.

We also talk about the joys of Harrow insitution - Trinity, NME album rankings, oversized fluffy hats, and a legendary day in Shoreditch Park at the chaotic, glorious 1234 Festival.

You can catch Rajiv live at the Pleasance Courtyard during this year’s Edinburgh Fringe, and his mind-bending work on Zoners is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.

Best listened to while wearing a bright cardigan and lenseless glasses.

  • Episode 31 - Anna Soden - Blondie, Parallel Lines
    Jul 24 2025

For episode 31 of the podcast I'm joined by actor, musician, comedian and social media sensation, Anna Soden!

Anyone that's gone near Tik Tok or Instagram over the last 12 months would have undoubtedly seen some of Anna's incredible work going viral and I feel super lucky that she would spare time to come on the podcast to talk with me.

Anna's work touches (hilariously) on Glee, class divide, Glee, working in theatre, Glee, being at teenager in the 00's, Glee, gravy, Glee and of course, Glee.

From enjoying so much of Anna's work it felt INEVITABLE that she was going to chose a Glee album to discuss on the podcast.... but no! She chose a genuinely brilliant and iconic album to deep dive, it's Parallel Lines by Blondie!

Anna was such a dream of a guest and we have so much fun discussing the everlasting appeal of Debbie Harry, baby sitting for posh kids, Glastonbury (I always seem to talk Glastonbury!) and we also play a game of charades which definitely does not work on an audio format.

It's available now at the link in bio or just search "THIS Album..." wherever you find your podcasts!

  • Episode 30 - Truck Festival 2025 Line Up Deep Dive with Gene James Smith
    Jul 17 2025

Hill Farm, we’re coming for you!

This July, I’ll be making my first pilgrimage to Oxfordshire's Truck Festival and I'll be joined by a loyal crew of millennial indie obsessives that I call my friends.

Truck have knocked it out of the park with this line up. There's Bloc Party, Kasabian, Fat Dog, Blossoms, Franz Ferdinand, Wunderhorse, Sports Team, CMAT… It’s indie heaven.

To celebrate, I’m bringing back friend of the show and former guest Gene James Smith for a full deep-dive into the lineup—from the big-font headliners to the new bands that could soon be soundtracking the second half of my summer.

We’ll also be comparing our Apple Music Replay: All-Time stats to see which tracks have been the most streamed by us for the last decade.

The numbers don't lie, there’s a certain four-piece from Sheffield dominating my list.

Are you going to Truck this year? Let me know who you’re looking forward to catching ✌🏻

  • Episode 29 - Eleanor K - Phoebe Bridgers, Punisher
    Jul 10 2025

I don't say this lightly, but this weeks podcast MIGHT be my favourite yet!

For episode 29 of "THIS Album..." I'm joined by a woman who absolutely delivered the exact level of humour, emotion, vulnerability, honesty and silliness I'd always hoped for on the show.

    She's a member of Crystal Fighters, she's a solo artist, she's a Tik Tok sensation and she's a bloody right laugh, it's Eleanor K!

Eleanor kindly invited me to her home studio in SE London and was a VERY generous host.

    I needed her to be.

I was in all kinds of trouble on the day we recorded and was running on fumes having barely slept a wink the night before. But Eleanor was such great company, that she lifted me out of the fugue state that I arrived in.

We talk Skeleton Outfits, admission for Museums and logistical problems with elaborate gift giving.

Come for the Phoebe Bridgers chat, stay for the Capri Sun fiascos.

But before you listen to the podcast, make sure you check out Eleanor's truly magnificent solo EP, Wonky, availalble wherever you stream bangers.

    Enjoy!
