Gordon B. Hinckley, in the April 1989 Conference, read this talk written by the Prophet, Ezra Taft Benson. There are talks that seem to span the generations of time, and this particular talk about pride is one of the most influential. Most latter day saints have in their minds what they think pride is, but President Benson adds clarity and definition to one of the least understood human frailties. It forces an introspection and diagnosis of one's self in a whole new way and introduces both the sinner and the saint to the ways in which societies at large have and will be destroyed. This talk when used as an opportunity to become more Zion like, will shine a bright light on where we can place our consecrated efforts to becoming more like the Savior.

Living the Law of Consecration is often put off until we actually are asked to join the coming United Order. However, in the temple, we covenant in real time to live this law here and now. What does living the Law of Consecration in full actually look like? The patterns contained in Enoch's Zion, ancient Israelite temple sacrifices, and current temple ceremonies and rites, are clues to how one becomes welcomed into the great, soon to be City of Zion. The Gathering of Israel is tied to the law of consecration in unmistakable ways. Zion is becoming one with our fellow mortals in the here and now, but also becoming one with the Resurrected Beings, Spirits, and Translated Beings who will also have residency in Zion. Temples connect both the heavenly and earthly cities of Zion in one work, building up the eternal Kingdom of God.

M. Russell Ballard, recounts the thinning of the veil experience of his grandfather, Melvin J. Ballard. This vision came in response after much pleading about how much the Saints would need to sacrifice. Truly being brought into the presence of the Savior requires the living of the full Law of Sacrifice. In a small way, Melvin J. Ballard experienced Zion in his own life for a few brief moments being brought into the presence of the Savior.

Much time is spent on knowing the "when" of Zion. While we are commanded to look at the signs and study the patterns, not much time is spent studying how to gain entrance into this Holy City. It really does not matter when Zion returns if we are not living the celestial laws required to live in the Savior's presence. In the temple we covenant to live the law of Sacrifice, but do we really understand it in it's entirety. Most do not connect the Law of Sacrifice to the Gathering of Israel. However both will gain us an eternal inheritance into Zion. Blood sacrifices have been required for all previous saints living in former dispensations. We are invited to live blood sacrifices in a new way in our dispensation. In patterning our sacrifice after the vicarious sacrifice of the Savior we can and will be worthy and sanctified to enter Zion and the presence of the Lord.
