Welcome to Brisbane, Queensland. It’s 1970, and Australia’s 'Sunshine State' is a land of mown lawns, beer and pumpkin scones. But underneath this buttoned-down conservativism, the state is awash with dirty money that runs through a network of corrupt cops. And tonight, the man atop this rubbish heap, Senior Sergeant Paul ‘Squinter’ O’Toole, is driving young crime reporter Lawrence Rich to his death. He should never have got in Squinter’s battered old Kingswood. He should never have fallen in love with Frankie. He should never have come to Brisbane in the first place....

A searing crime thriller from BAFTA and Emmy® Award winning producers, Hoodlum Entertainment.

An Audible Original Drama featuring a full cast including Alex Fitzalan (Lawrence), Damien Garvey (Squinter), Jolene Anderson (Frankie), Colin Smith (Hugh/Father) and Andrea Moor (Meredith/Eva).

Written by Phil Enchelmaier and Bronwen Noakes. Produced by Kerrin McNeil. Recorded at UNISON Sound.

An immersive crime thriller with staying power

A fascinating premise backed by a strong, technically excellent delivery.

The convincing performances, deft writing, and superbly immersive sound design create a decisive, enthralling take with a unique Queensland twist.

Worth trying out for at least the first 10 episodes.

AMAZING!

I listen to a lot of podcasts but have not really looked to Audible for them before. I am glad I did because I found this gem of Austyralian storytelling and performance.
So gritty yet identifyable.
Please release another season, there's more to this story!

Aussie Noir Thriller

As a Brisbane local, I loved the idea of a crime story set in my own city, and the 1970 setting worked tremendously well.

Each episode begins and ends during a long car drive where young crime journalist Lawrence is being escorted to an unknown destination by Paul "Squinter" O'Reilly, a corrupt cop. Each episode spells out more of their background, how they became entangled and what has led them to this late-night drive.

If you like your crime stories character-driven and thoughtful, this one is for you.

Great Aussie yarn

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast and would definitely recommend for other readers /listeners.
A little confusing at the end though. So I found myself imagining the end the way I wanted it to be :)
Loved the plot twists especially at the end.
Keep up the great work guys and gal's

Country Mouse vs City Mouse

Good dialogue and variety of characterisation in this classic fish out of water tale. Clearly made by a professional outfit. That said, I didn't stay more than one ep – it's just not different enough.

Great crime thriller! Love the Aussie accents

Well told story, in dramatised form. Gripping, tense and so great that it is set in Brisbane with an Australian cast. Highly recommend!
